You are bidding on a true collector's item! "ANTARCTICA" is limited edition poster autographed by ocean explorer, Jacques-Yves Cousteau.


Description: "ANTARCTICA" is a limited edition poster from an original watercolor by Margery Spielman and owned by Jean-Michel Cousteau.  It measures 21 inches by 25 inches. Printed in November 1990, it was designed to support The Cousteau Society's campaign to protect Antarctica from mineral and resource exploitation.

Distribution: The Cousteau Society (T.C.S.) has exclusive distribution rights, excluding posters owned by the artist (see below).

1000 posters were distributed as follows:
250 taken to Santiago, Chile in December 1990 by T.C.S. and given to all delegates attending the International Conference on Antarctica.
250 sent to T.C.S. headquarters and offered to Society members
300 sent to Parc Oceanique Cousteau in Paris, France and sold out during the "Paris Marine Art Expo."
200 given to artist Margery Spielman in appreciation of her efforts. These are the only posters in the edition autographed by Jacques Cousteau (15 posters were personalized by Jacques Cousteau and sent to U.S. President George Bush, French President Mitterand and other international heads of state.)

Handling: Avoid direct or reflected sunlight, and frame using conservation approved techniques and materials.

Update: In October 1991, all parties to the Antarctica Treaty signed an accord prohibiting mineral and resource exploitation in Antarctica for a minimum of fifty years.

The winning bidder will receive a certificate of authenticity signed and dated by the artist, Margery Spielman along with the signed poster.

Bidder is responsible for Shipping and Handling fee, which will be added to the winning bid amount. Items will be shipped from California and billed at standard industry rates. This item will be shipped in a tube. (If shipment is international, Bidder will also be responsible for any customs fees.) All sales are final, no refunds or exchanges.

Ocean Futures Society can not guarantee the arrival of the shipment before December 25th.
