Item Description
This 6’ board was created by Isaiah Paskowitz, the fountainhead of surfers healing. The design provides a small view inside the mind of Isiah.
Isaiah, now 24, was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3. Like many autistic children, he often suffered from meltdowns and sensory overload – simple sensations could overwhelm him. The ocean was the one place he seemed to find respite. Riding the waves with his father, Izzy, calmed him like nothing else. With Isaiah on the front of the board and Izzy steering from the back, the two spent the day surfing together. Surfing had a profound impact on Isiah and Izzy and his wife, Danielle, wanted to share this unique therapy with other autistic children.
Not everyone has a championship surfer for a dad, so the Paskowitz family invited others to join them at the beach. Their idea caught on, and now Surfers Healing is a nationwide, grassroots non-profit organization. They are the original surf camp for children with autism and ALL of their events are free. Even though they had 4,500+ participants last year – and even though autism now affects 1 in 68 children in the U.S. – Surfers Healing doesn’t think in thousands. They think in ones, because that's where they can effect change.
One child. One family. One day at the beach.
