Item Description
This vintage surfboard was crafted by legendary shaper Dale Velzy. Dale Velzy is regarded as one of the most influential figures in the sport. He began making balsa surfboards beneath the Hermosa Beach Pier in 1949, and a few years later opened what many consider world’s first surf shop: Velzy Surfboards in Manhattan Beach. Teaming with partner Hap Jacobs, Dale opened a half dozen Velzy-Jacobs shops throughout California and Hawaii. His surf team read like a roster of legends: Dewey Weber, Miki Dora, Donald Takayama, Mike Doyle and Mickey Munoz. Velzy was a pioneer in surfboard design and his work is much sought after by collectors.
Donated and lovingly restored by master craftsman Danny Brawner and his son Damien. Danny is a Dale Velzy employee from the early days of Velzy’s surf shops and is himself a bit of a legend - Danny was the drummer and founding member of The Sandals, an early, influential surf rock band from the 1960s. The Sandals are most famous for scoring the surfing documentary, The Endless Summer.
The board is a 10' board.
