Item Description
Dylan is a talented and energetic 16-year-old artist with Autism. He has an amazing memory, a remarkable attention to detail and an innate eye for color. His talent for art and drawing was evident at a young age when he produced a daily myriad of cartoons. Art quickly became an unobstructed means of communication for Dylan. His passion is painting and his favored subjects are water, landscapes and wildlife. As many with Autism are, Dylan has a strong affinity with water and water is more often than not an integral part of his art. He finds water in all forms calming and inspiring. Rivers, oceans, mud, ice and snow, it all draws him in. He has an enduring interest in sea creatures and fish of all varieties. He loves to kayak, swim, ski, and to observe and learn about water creatures. Dylan has a broad knowledge about marine life and hopes to get a degree in marine biology.
This summer Dylan volunteered at the New Mexico Biopark. He continues to volunteer at the zoo, aquarium and botanic gardens during school breaks. Dylan has discovered the joy of teaching painting and arts and crafts to special needs children. He gave instruction to groups of grade school aged children with Autism at a summer camp and recently has been the lead instructor in art class and on a large mural project at his school. Charitable donation of his work is essential for Dylan. It has always been Dylan’s intention to have this piece of work benefit Surfer’s Healing to contribute to their special work of spreading the healing, calming and limitless joy of water to those with Autism.
