Item Description

Winning bidder will receive one week of co-ed Basketball Camp, from July 5 - July 7, 2016.  The co-ed camp is for all kids, ages 9-17, and is held at Brown Middle School in Newton.

**This is a qualifying event, open to public. Top campers invited to “Walters 100" *** 

ASA and Walter McCarty camps are geared for all ages and abilities. All campers are expected to work very hard, be receptive to coaching, exhibit discipline, a strong work ethic, and be serious about basketball. As a staff we pride ourselves in being teaching camp first, campers are expected to learn and exhibit certain skills throughout the week. Scrimmaging and contests will take place throughout the week.

At the end of each week players may have an opportunity to win / earn a trophy. Awards are generally given for the following categories: Free Throw Champion, 1 on 1 Champion, 3 on 3 Champion, & Hot Shot Champions. Coaches may vote to award: Most improved player, Drill Stations Award, Coaches award and a Defensive Stopper award. All players will leave with a detailed evaluation at the conclusion of camp.

10:50AM – 11:30AM: Full Court Scrimmages 
11:30AM – 12:00PM: Lunch 
12:00PM – 12:15PM: 10 Free Throws / Free Shoot 
12:15PM – 12:35PM: Shooting Games 
12:35PM – 12:50PM: 1 on 1 Drills

FAQ: 
1. We do not offer extended day. Campers are allowed to arrive 15 minutes before camp for check in and should be picked up promptly at 2:30PM.
2. Camper to staff ratio is 10/1.
3. All staff members receive criminal background checks.
4. This camp does provide competition where awards are earned. Every camper does not receive a trophy / prize 5. Campers are divided by age and ability
6. Co-ed camps: Yes in some cases girls are competing against boys
7. Lunch is not provided, although concessions may be offered depending on the location.
8. We do not offer refunds for cancellations; credits are issued for future use.
9. Walter McCarty is present for at least 50% of the camp when ASA is hosting a McCarty camp event.

About ASA Hoops:

Now in our 18th year, A Step Ahead Inc. (ASA Hoops) has become a year-round operation offering clinics, classes, camps and boys / girls AAU. More than 2,000 participants have entered our programs. This up-coming year will be our biggest yet, with over 40 camps scheduled throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine the expansion of our greater Boston AAU / Metrowest AAU program ASA Hoops is the number one youth basketball provider in New England. Participants, boys and girls, range in age from 7-18 and have come from countries as far away as Japan, China, Mexico, Italy, Israel and Spain as well as from cities all over New England.

 

About the Director:

Brendan Smith is the Owner and Director of A Step Ahead Incorporated (ASA). As Director of ASA Smith overseas all basketball operations including: summer camps boys / girls AAU teams, school vacation clinics and weekly skills classes. In addition to his duties at ASA, Smith has served boys' varsity basketball coach at Boston Latin School since the 2007-08 season.

During his tenure, Smith has lead the Wolfpack to two DCL Championships, and five tournament births. Smith has previously coached men's college basketball at Mt. Ida College, and high school basketball at Newton North High School. Most recently, Smith successfully completed the requirements to become a MIAA/MSSAA certified coach. In 2010 Smith passed both the written and floor exams of referee school to join the referee fraternity and became a member of Board 27. He earned his undergraduate degree in Human Performance & Fitness at Umass Boston and received his Masters of Education degree from Cambridge College.

All winning bidders will be charged a transaction fee of 5%, not to exceed $20 per item, to cover a portion of the auction transaction fees.  We thank you for bidding and supporting the school.
