Item Description

Subject: REAGAN THATCHER COMMEMORATIVE ARTWORK BY PETER MAX

This Artwork commemorates a very special confluence of wonderful, if bittersweet moments in our American History. On February 3, 1994, 3000 well-wishers gathered in Washington D.C. on the occasion of President Reagan's 83rd birthday to celebrate with him and honor him. Lady Margaret Thatcher, his devoted friend and long time partner in world affairs came in to deliver the keynote address. Artist Peter Max was commissioned to paint portraits of the two together as the visual centerpiece of the event. He did so in grand style and the two paintings were prominently featured throughout the event. The smaller Work here is one of the three studies he did leading up to the event. Little did anyone know, when President Reagan rose to wild acclaim by those assembled, that this would be his last public event....though it must be said that it was quite a worthy public send off with the Gipper saying he was resisting calls to run again in 1996 as he was keeping his powder dry for 2000!

This beautiful artistic memento painted for the occasion by Peter Max, and presented by him to the coordinator of the Artist's participation in this event, is one of only three ever done and the other two have never been circulated and are not likely to be. Whoever owns this Work will own a piece of a moment in time that many of us can only hope to be recaptured by our nation sometime soon.
