Item Description

In order to develop the capacity of poor rural communities in the U.S., RDLN provides opportunities for emerging leaders in learning, on-the-ground project work, networking, new credentials and new exposure and connections.

RDLN Leaders may earn a master's degree in Social Science with a concentration in Rural Community Development through our arrangement with Antioch University Midwest.  The degree is earned through participation in RDLN's month-long Rural Development Institute at the University of California at Davis; implementation of a two-year Field Project with other community people; and pursuit of online learning directly with the school plus independently designed learning components with academically qualified advisors in the local area.

Tuition is expensive. If 300 people give $100 each, the cost for one person can be covered.

One potential scholarship recipient was born in Columbia, South America.    She has worked at Cornell Extension and assisted immigrant farmers around the country, providing information on how they can benefit from available programs and overcome social and economic disadvantages, including language barriers, historical discrimination, and lack of access to capital and services.  They include former farmworkers, most of whom are Spanish-speaking and are new to this country.
