STORE & REST STOPS

Before we can build a high school, we must have a way to support it. Our store and restrooms on Mumbwa Road will help us do that. We are building 12 toilets and hiring an attendant to keep them clean. Our store will offer food, drinks, crafts made by the children, and used books. Mumbwa Road is the only road between Lusaka and the largest Game Park in Zambia and currently there are no bathrooms or rest stops at all.

SHELTER

We raise children between the ages of 18 months and 20 years who have lost both parents. There are currently seven houses on campus, each based on a family model, with one or two house mothers who oversee all care. Each house has three bedrooms and two baths and each child has a bed with clean linens and a mosquito net. Each child receives three meals each day, clothing and shoes, medical care, and emotional support as needed.

EDUCATION

Our primary school teaches kindergarten through 7th grade, where 55 Chishawasha children attend, along with 65 children from surrounding villages. In addition to an education, these children are given two meals a day, clothing, shoes and medical care. Also, a dozen Chishawasha children attend secondary school off-campus. Children who qualify may continue their education at the university level.

TRAINING AND SKILLS

Each child is taught at least one skill, preferably two. Currently, sewing and carpentry are offered to both boys and girls. Plans are being developed to teach plumbing, electrical wiring, automobile repair, catering, bead-working and bookkeeping. The children and staff make grocery bags, beadwork and other items that are for sale at the local markets.

FARMING PROJECT

Every child is taught sustainable farming methods. This includes planting and harvesting tomatoes, onions, eggplant, corn, peanuts, spinach, mangos, bananas, and peaches from our gardens and orchards. The children also tend to the hen house, where they care for 130 laying hens. Currently, Chishawasha provides all our children and staff with eggs, fruits and vegetables, and we sell the excess to local villages.

HOME-BASED SUPPORT

Many orphaned children in Zambia live with a grandparent, sibling or other family member, with no source of income. We help these children stay in their own homes and community by paying school fees and/or purchasing shoes and a uniform, and/or school supplies. During times of food scarcity or a family crisis, we also help by supplying food or other needed items. We have occasionally helped families to start a small business of their own in an effort to help them become more self-sufficient.

Winning bidder must pick up item at the KXCI Studios or pay for shipping. Delivery not guaranteed before December 25^th. The KXCI studios will be open on December 19^thfrom 10am to 4pm for pick up and December 21^st-23rd from 10am to 5pm, and then regular hours Monday-Friday excluding holidays.
