Item Description

Take a spin with this trio of sexy Italian trattoria wines!

2000 Lunelli Terre Di Pietra

Terre di Pietra (stony soils) is an extraordinary wine. A blend of roughly 20% cabernet sauvignon, 20% cabernet franc and 10% merlot, it's the remaining half that's the secret of its originality: The balance is equal parts lagrein and teroldego.

The resulting blend is like one of those interfaith marriages that somehow work, despite the fact that everyone says it won't. You get mineraliness in both scent and taste from the lagrein; backbone and spiciness from the two cabernets (as well as from some French oak); and dense, soft, luscious, perfumey fruit from the teroldego and merlot. Few wines can rightly be called "original" today. This is one.

2009 Marziano Abbona Barbera Di Alba

Wine Enthusiast - 90 PTS

Barbera Rinaldi opens with a darkly concentrated appearance and ripe aromas of blackberry, prune, leather and moist pipe tobacco. There’s definitely a plump, ripe and chewy quality to this wine with loads of chocolate as well.

2003 Monte Bernardi Chianti

Tasting Notes:

(Sangiovese, with a small % of Canaiolo) – primary, fruity, sappy nose with violets and kid glove notes, palate shows good tannic grip and depth of black cherry fruit, finishes clean and minerally – impressive.
