Item Description
Motorhead Founding Member Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister, in an original portrait by renowned artist Jason Swain.
Transplanted from down under, Jason Swain is now a local artist in the DC area. The subject known as Lemmy, real name Ian Kilmister, is the iconic guitarist from Motor Head who recently passed away from cancer. His portrait was created using several different blends of coffee and brewing techniques to achieve the variety of toning levels. The portrait is painted in stages, using lighter tones first and letting each dry before adding another layer. By letting the coffee bleed into the raw canvas it creates unique skin tones similar to Sepia photos from past years.
Jason’s background varies from portraits using both oils and coffee to chain saw carving. He has been painting professionally for 20 years and has been featured on WJLA, Fox News, NBC4, and in the Washington Post.
