Item Description

Winning bidder will receive one week of either Day Camp or Sports Camp at Dedham Country Day Camp.  Extended options also available at bidders expense.  The Day Camp serves campers from pre-K to 6th grade.  This summer camp begins the week of June 27th and runs through August 19th.

DCD Camp offers a half-day program (9am-1pm) for those children entering nursery, Pre-K and K, or a full-day program (9am-4pm) for campers entering grades Pre-K-6th.  The value of the half-day program is $285 and the value of the full-day program is $450.

CHOOSING BETWEEN DAY CAMP AND SPORTS CAMP:

Day Camp and Sports Camp run concurrently and share all facilities. Some children simply like an extra dose of sports in their day and if that is the case for your child, Sports Camp may be a good option. Sports campers get their athletic time during the morning hours with a variety of competitive and non-competitive games. The focus is on exercise and general skill building, as opposed to any one specific sport. Soccer, baseball, and basketball will certainly be a part of the program, but the focus will be on having fun. Each sports camper also receives a Red Cross swim lesson each day.

Sports Camp activities take place during the morning hours. Sports campers join a DAY CAMP group for afternoon activities:  archery, woodworking, and free swim.

Since registrations are for a week at a time, some children register for Sports Camp for a few weeks, and then for Day Camp for a few weeks. There is flexibility between programs.

ABOUT DEDHAM COUNTRY DAY CAMP:

At Dedham Country Day Camp, we believe that summer time should reinforce the wonders of being a child, and the enduring joy of friendship.  While we offer a broad range of activities from archery to woodworking, we also allow time in each day for the simple enjoyment of catching frogs in the stream, climbing trees and building forts in the pine grove.

If you have a child between the ages of 3.5 and 12, and you believe that summer is a time to explore, play, laugh, and learn, then DCD Camp is just the place. Our small size allows for each camper to get the individual attention we all want for our children. Come find out for yourself.

Or to schedule a PERSONAL TOUR please contact Lisa Kaplan in the DCD Camp Office.

The dates and rates listed here apply to both our Day Camp Program and our Sports Camp Program.  You can register for any number of weeks, on a week-by-week basis.

SWIMMING

The Camp utilizes its two swimming pools, which are ideal for young campers. One pool is a large, shallow pool, and the other is an L-shaped pool with a depth of three to eight feet. Full-day campers participate in an American Red Cross swimming lesson each morning and a free swim each afternoon.

Half-day campers have one swim lesson per day, during which they learn swimming and water safety skills through games, songs, and free play.

All pool staff are certified by the American Red Cross, and are experienced in teaching young children to swim and enjoy the water. The instructor-to-camper ratio during lessons is dependent upon the size of the camper group, but will not exceed 1:5.

SPORTS AND GAMES

Traditionally a favorite with the DCD campers, Sports and Games time takes place in the large Rand Gym or out on the playing fields. Traditional camp games (tag, frisbee, relays, capture the flag, etc) along with some basic beginning sports (whiffle ball, badminton, soccer, kick ball) are all a part of Sports & Games time.

OUTDOOR EXPLORERS/NATURE

Trekking through the marsh, or setting up a campground area in the pine grove, outdoor explorers will learn some basic of survival in the elements! Learn to pitch a tent, use a compass, or just take in the wonder of nature. Activities, experiments, and games are all a part of this piece of the camp program.

WOODWORKING

Woodworking with kids? You bet! Campers are introduced to the the use of hand tools and will craft pieces to take home. In the past, birdhouses, name signs, planters, boats, and boxes have all been popular projects.

Campers entering Nursery and Pre-K come to the wood shop for wood sculpture and painting.

ARTS AND CRAFTS

Tye-dye, painting, beading, and fun art experiments form the foundation of the arts and crafts program. Weekly themes inspire the projects produced in the arts/crafts room.

ARCHERY

A certified instructor teaches children entering First Grade and above the skills of archery. Aim, stance, and safety are the focus of this program.

DIRECTOR'S CHOICE

The Camp Director and Assistant Director get in on the action and offer special activities each day.

In previous summers the director made giant water bottle bubble guns, marmallow shooters, meted crayon paintings, splatter art and more. Dan (Assistant Director) is a PE teacher and likes getting out the climbing ropes and mats in the gymnasium. A pick-up game of Capture the Flag or Knock-Out might also be in the plan for the day.

COOKING

Each camper enjoys cooking as one of their special activities one period per week. Recipes usually relate to the camp theme of the week (ie. Jello aquariums with candy fish for an Ocean Theme, or Red, White and Blue Cake for 4th of July theme, and so on.

DRAMA

Campers take to the DCD stage to play silly improv games, along with putting on several mini-performances. At our mid-summer point, we enjoy watching the annual camp talent show for the next budding star.

THEME EVENTS

Each week at camp features a different exciting theme. The campers have special theme-related activities, adventues and games. For example, last summer during Ocean Week, we had the giant inflatable waterslide on campus. During Magic week, a magician came to perfom, and during Animal Planet week, we had a Petting Zoo and Pony Ride.

ABOUT SPORTS CAMP:

While some camps focus on honing athletic skills in only one sport, our campers enjoy a number of different athletic games and activities throughout each week.

DCD Sports Camp introduces campers to a variety of sports including baseball/softball, basketball, soccer, field/floor hockey, flag/touch football, gymnastics, and an assortment of group games. Motor skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship will be taught through skill repetition, drills, and game-like situations in a fun and challenging program. Sports Campers also receive a Swim Lesson each morning.

Sports Campers get their extra dose of athletic activities in the morning, and then in the afternoon they join the day campers for Archery, Woodworking, Field Sports, and Free Swim.
