Item Description
The motto of St. Mary of the Plains College was, Sapientia Caritas Prudentia (Wisdom, Charity, Prudence). It was accredited in 1963 by The Higher Learning Commission and in 1968 became a member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Due to expanding enrollments, the college expanded dramatically and added four dormitory buildings in the late 1960s. The school's men's program competed as the Cavaliers, The school's women's program competed as the Saints in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. As the population of Western Kansas declined in the 1970s, enrollment at St. Mary of the Plains declined as well. Unable to maintain its operations, and without a large endowment to sustain itself, the college was forced to permanently close its doors in 1992. As 2010, the school still holds the NAIA football record for fewest points allowed per game at 1.3 (13 points in 10 games). Fill these steins with your favorite ale, and reminisce with your buddies about your favorite St Mary of the Plains College Days.
