What We Do
WCT provides a range of programs from musicals to vacation programs, and weekend workshops to afterschool projects. Below, you can see our available programs based on their types, as well as the times at which they occur. For more information about specific programs, visit our Programs page.
Musicals
Our musicals are large-cast productions that feature singing, dancing, and acting. Age ranges vary from term to term. All musicals include an orientation/audition process and a parent volunteer component. Rehearsals are held Wednesdays and Fridays, 3:30-6 pm, and Sundays 2-5 pm, and actors can expect to attend about 2-3 rehearsals per week, depending on their roles. During the final week, actors must come to rehearsal every day. Performances take place in the Charles Mosesian Theater, and actors will perform in two evening and two matinee performances.
Junior Players
Junior Players is a companion program to our musicals. Junior Players sing and dance in 3-4 scenes as part of our musical production. Classes are held on Monday afternoons. There is a parent orientation and parent volunteer component as a part of this program. During the final week, there will be additional rehearsals. Performances take place in the Charles Mosesian Theater, and Jr. Players will perform in one evening and one matinee performance.
Play Factory
Play Factory is a small ensemble production based on a work of literature. Age ranges vary from term to term. Play Factory is an opportunity for students to focus on their acting skills and work as an ensemble in a non-musical play. There is a parent orientation and parent volunteer component as a part of this program. Rehearsals are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-6 pm, with additional rehearsals during the final week. Actors can expect to attend 1-2 rehearsals per week, depending on their roles. Performances take place in the Black Box Theater, and students will perform in 3 public performances and 1 Friday morning matinee for a school group.
Page to Stage
Page to Stage is a small ensemble workshop that creates a performance from a book or story. Age ranges vary from term to term. Working with an instructor, the group will begin with the story itself, and work to create a performance in which they create the sets, props, and costumes themselves. A final, informal presentation takes place on the last day of class.
WCT Apprenticeship Program (WCTAP)
The WCTAP program provides students in 9th – 12th grade the opportunity to learn about mounting a professional theatrical production under the mentorship of the WCT design team. Program participants are individually paired with mentors from the theatre’s production staff to ensure a professional, high quality experience, apprenticing in one of three disciplines: costume, lighting and sound or set and props design. Apprentices act as members of the WCT production team, and will work on productions that are part of the regular WCT season.
Workshops
WCT periodically offers one day or weekend workshops, or longer workshop classes, for students of various ages and skill-sets. Past offerings have included Broadway Dance, Music Theory for Singers, Visual Arts and Drama workshops, Improvisation, and other topics of interest to our students. We annually offer a self-scripting and performance workshop for our older students, called My Story, in which they write and perform work about their own lives.
Vacation Programs
Weeklong school vacation programs and two-week Summer Stage programs are a chance for students to immerse themselves in the arts. Programs generally run from 9 – 4 pm on weekdays, and may include acting, music, visual arts, scenic and costume design, theatre games, and more. Each Vacation Program has its own theme, and culminates in a final, informal presentation on the final day.
Private Voice Program
With WCT’s Private Voice Program, students will learn techniques to strengthen their voices through weekly individual lessons. Students will acquire the skills for healthy singing with special attention paid to proper vocal technique, performance ability, and stage deportment as well as general music appreciation and awareness. The Voice Program also acts as a compliment to the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Framework – Music, directly supporting the curriculum learning standards for both Singing and Reading and Notation. Students also have the opportunities to perform at recitals and various other venues.
Item Special Note
All 4 tickets must be used for the same performance. Must reserve by May 15 to guarantee availability.
