This enticing elixir – Materium - from the Maybach Family of wines, comes from a vineyard at an elevation of about 1,000 feet above the Silverado Trail. This wine is incredible first-growth material – a magical Cabernet Sauvignon with an opaque purple color, an extraordinary nose of blackberry and cassis, white flowers, crushed rock and minerality followed by a full-bodied majestic mouthfeel with phenomenal balance, purity and overall equilibrium. Stunningly rich and impressive, this wine will hit its peak in 8-10 years and has the potential to last 40-50 years. 

But don’t wait—only 600 cases of this wine were produced, and with a Parker score of 100 points, it is extremely rare, and very, very hard to get.

•A thank you to our Mater, granddaughter of Wilhelm Maybach.

•Anagram for Materia Medica, the doctor’s reference book of symptoms and remedies; in memory of Dr. Frederic Schmid, our father.

•An echo of the word Motorenbau, the automobile company founded by Karl Maybach.

•Latin for Earthly Realm. A reminder that even the finest wines are still chiefly Material.

Collection of California Sales Tax: Unless a valid resale permit is presented to seller prior to the sale, purchaser will be required to pay all state and local retail sales taxes applicable in the date of sale. Resale permits will be accepted only for businesses that are reasonably expected to buy and sell wine. Sales tax will be collected on the fair market value of each lot which contains tangible goods.

Shipping or Pick up of Wines: Shipping costs are the sole responsibility of the winner.

Non-Napa County winners of auction lots containing wines will have their wines shipped from the Napa Valley Wine Warehouse storage facility in St. Helena, beginning Tuesday, March 1, 2016. If you're the lucky winner, we'll call you to get your credit card info and share more details.
