Item Description
Temple rubbing on rice paper depicting traditional dancing figure in ochre on cream background. This rubbing was purchased in 1997 in Siem Reap, location the famous temples of Angkor Wat.
Paper is smoothed upon the raised carved relief of a temple scene. The paper is brushed with water, causing the heavy pulp content in the paper to adher and mold itself to the carved stone, allowing the artist to add color to the raised relief depicted in the paper. The paper is allowed to dry and gently peeled back, resulting in a three dimensional vivid representation of the spectacular carving of the ancient temple wall.
