Item Description

This dramatic Cambodian Temple rubbing purchased in 1999 in Siem Reap, Cambodia ,  home to the ancient temples of Angkor Wat.

This rubbing has nearly three dimensional feel to it, with some detail raised nearly 3/8 inch ( about 1 cm) . Thick rice paper was placed on a carved stone relief of a temple wall and brushed with water until the paper adhered and molded  itself to the wall, clearly displaying the carvings beneath. The artist then  carefully added  color to the raised part of the paper. After the paper has dried, it was   pealed from the wall.  The “rubbing” dramatically shows a representation of the ancient temple  carvings.
