Item Description
Kubb is a fun lawn game that originates in Sweden, and has been played, by some claims, for over a 1000 years. It was listed in the Nordic Familybook in 1911. An outlandish rumor has it that Vikings played it with the skulls and femurs of their enemies, though most likely it came from tossing firewood chunks around to pass the time during long summer nights.
Kubb is also my (Mr. T's) favorite new game. I was delighted to stumble upon this truly awesome lawn game while surfing the internet for new games ideas for my students. The game is becoming more popular in the United States, and has a national championship event in Wisconsin every year.
This is my second handmade Kubb set, and it's made of birch dowels, and redwood kubbs reclaimed from my removed deck. I routered some Norse runes in the kubbs for fun (one means “uncontrolled forces"), and used a spar urethane finish to make them last longer. I've included some basic rules, and you can find instructional videos online, as well as the meaning of the runes.
I hope this Kubb set brings your friends and family hours and hours of great fun. Njut Av! (Enjoy!)
