Item Description

Everyone loves Raju, the elephant who cried during his rescue when we removed his chains. Jewelry artist Laura, created this beautiful pendant necklace in honor of our precious Raju. This bid is for a one-of-a-kind pendant and beaded necklace. The pendant is cast in solid pewter, over an inch in width. Raju’s name is inscribed on the back with a heart stamped above his name! The pendant hangs from silver metallic leather, with beads from Africa and the Gobi Desert. The silver accents are Tibetan and Sterling. Length is 17 inches with a 3 inch extender chain.

Message from the Artist:

"While I love all the elephants at Wildlife SOS- Raju is the one that I was originally introduced to via Facebook- and I am so happy to have found him and Wildlife SOS!  I have been following his story since his rescue and he is the one who tugged at my heart strings and inspired this necklace.

I am starting a new line of jewelry called "Story Jewelry” and the Raju Pendant Bead Necklace is the 'first' of the new line for the “Elephant Story Jewelry!”  I have the photo of Raju in his bath---the famous photo--- looking so happy with his leaf- on the wall of my work room and let the photo and beads dictate to me “Raju's Story.”

I designed the elephant foot print pendant bead, 'walking to freedom' and a jewelry artist friend of mine cast it in solid pewter- I had to have her put Raju's name with a heart on the back- just seemed fitting for all of us who love him so much!

When I saw the rustic murky green-brown recycled glass beads from Africa they looked just like his favorite bath water.  The two small brown beads are from the Gobi Desert in Mongolia--- they have little brain patterns, because we know elephants never forget...except at Wildlife SOS where the memory of abuse is washed away with love and kindness.  And, they also represent the warmth of the earth he now walks and sleeps on each day in peaceful bliss.  The metallic silver gray leather represents our elephant friends’ beautiful skin.  I finished it with sterling silver and Tibetan silver to represent his regal demeanor and add a touch of class in honor of King Raju!"

To care for your new necklace – please put in a large air tight plastic bag – then in a box for safekeeping.   When it comes time to clean – a simple microfiber cloth works like magic if you should see any tarnish!    I hope the person who wins this necklace will love wearing it as much as I loved making it!!  Thank you for supporting elephant friends at Wildlife SOS. Love, Laura
