Item Description
Enjoy a rustic retreat in a faithful copy, exact in size and appearance, of Henry Thoreau's woods retreat by Walden Pond (1845-1847) in the heart of the Adirondacks region of NY. Ringed by pines in a secluded setting, Thoreau House is just a half mile in Jay, NY, above the scenic AuSable River on Stonehouse Road, the prettiest one-lane dirt road in the state. Beautiful views across Hamilton Field to the Jay Mountains and wilderness forest all the way to Lake Champlain. It's just a short walk to the cool-running brook, well used by settlers years ago, that runs down from Ebenezer Mountain high overhead. Great hiking on 700 private acres!
Modern conveniences include a double bed, dresser and a Vermont Castings gas (propane) fireplace. The woodshed serves as a fully equipped kitchen with gas range and fridge. Indoor shower base with portable shower. Loft with ladder. Insulated for winter use, and has electricity. NOTE: This location is secluded. The site has only cold running water and an outdoor privy (outhouse).
Item Special Note
Maximum two people. 11% Sales/Occupancy Tax to paid by high bidder upon arrival. Advance reservation required. High bidder and donor to arrange mutually agreeable reservation. Not valid on holidays or holiday weekends.
