One week stay in a French Village Home in Southwest. Only 30 minutes from Mediterranean. 2 hours from Barcelona.
Situated in rural Languedoc-Roussillon, the village of Castelnau d'Aude (pop.445) is quiet and peaceful, a small hamlet virtually a world apart from the hustle and bustle of city life. Our cozy holiday home has old world charm and modern amenities. Without the distractions of wi-fi and satellite tv, it is a perfect chance to get away from it all! We invite our guests to unplug and unwind - relax and enjoy the simplicity of the French countryside. Go for a cycle by the canal (less than a mile away), have a picnic by the river, or enjoy a glass of wine from our local winemaker on our rooftop terrace.
Castelnau d'Aude is situated midway between the historic cities of Carcassonne and Narbonne, in the shadow of the black mountains and surrounded by vineyards. The house is only 5 minutes from the Canal du Midi and 30 minutes from the Mediterranean.
A rural paradise, the village remains undiscovered by many from outside the region. The village is known for it's award wining winery Terres Georges run by Roland and Anne-Marie Coustal who offer tours and tastings twice weekly.
Lezignan-Corbieres (10 minutes away) has a host of shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants. Both Lezignan and Olonzac (10 minutes away) have authentic, lively weekly markets. A five minute drive away is the beautiful canal side village of Homps, with a recreational lake ideal for sunbathing and swimming. It also has a cafe bar on the site with boat hire too. Along the canal at Homps there are some wonderful cafe/bars and restaurants.
The ground floor of the house consists of a living room with open plan kitchen and dining area (along with a with a queen sofa beds). The winding stairs lead to the first floor with a small single bedroom, a large bedroom with a twin and queen bed, and an adjacent w/c with shower. Upstairs there is a large bedroom that looks out onto the rooftop terrace, a perfect spot dining or relaxing with a glass of wine on a lovely warm evening.
The home is located on a quiet road with little to no traffic. The village has a town hall, school, post office, grocery shop, as well as a weekly butchers van. Within a two minute walk of the house is a playground, basketball court and a football stadium.
