Item Description
Eye of Truth is a 13.5x 19 mixed media piece by Bay Area artist Ron Carter....
This work like many of his creations, incorporates the use of broken musical instrument elements as canvas, frame or both.
The instrument is recovered, treated, repaired as needed and prepared so it can become a canvas, a frame, or incorporated as elements of both, depending on the subject of the work. He only uses musical instruments that are substantially distressed and no longer playable or generally beyond repair.
A smashed acoustic guitar was used as a canvas.
'Eye of Truth...' relates to the legacy of the African-American woman and how she has become provider, glue, powerhouse, womb, widow, teacher, superwoman, surrogate father, doctor, chef, orator, disciplinary agent, cheerleader and soothsayer all the while this western culture has seen fit to strip her of her womanhood, her passion, her ability love and be loved, and of her other half - in order to control and berate all that she has and is...
The background represents her voice, through the din of noise directed at her from any number of agents, groups, agencies, politicians, citizen action groups, companies, people of other cultures and even her own people. This screams a small part of her passions, her power and her truth.
She is the unabated Storm...
