Item Description
Silicon Valley influences the world with its mix of vanguard innovators. Try out this trio of reds and decide for yourself if you prefer the maturity of an established bottle akin to Facebook and Google or are adventurous enough to give the vino start-up equivalent a try. (We promise – none of the bottles are the equivalent of Webvan or Pets.com.)
Start out with elder statesmen of this trio, a 2006 Blackbird Vineyards Proprietary red with a score of 90 from Wine Spectator, who adds that the bottle is “dense and complex, with a touch of velvet to smooth it out. Aromas of black currant and espresso lead to layered cherry, blueberry and cedar flavors that finish with ripe, loamy tannins.” It is partnered with the 2007 Cain Cuvee from Napa, a confident red that is intended to sit lightly, refreshingly on your palate, with complexity, balance, and finish.
The 2013 Jax Vineyards Y3 Taureau is young, but it definitely knows what it’s doing. Robert Parker rated it a big and bold 92, and the Wine Advocate calls it “a beautifully rich, concentrated, irresistible style of wine to drink casually or with serious cuisine.” Good to drink now through 2022.
