Item Special Note
I became interested in woodturning in 1997. At first I turned bowls, boxes and other small items. Then, in 2003, I attended two workshops with Frank Sudol, an internationally known woodturner from Canada. He opened my eyes to a whole new world of turning larger hollow forms, along with using airbrushed color on wood. Later, I began adding finials to various pieces, to give them a more elegant form.
My wood of choice is Birch. I acquire most of this from my own land, and I normally turn it "green" which means that I harvest the tree, and turn it before it dries. This process is the one I favor the most, because of the way the wood turns when "wet." It is almost magical to see the form take shape as the wood shavings glide through the air. Alone at the lathe, I have the tendency to lose all sense of time.
