Item Description
Do not miss this chance to savor these outstanding reds from the Amarone della Valpolicella area, one of the most prestigious wine-making regions in Italy. First, the 1995 Della Allegrini Amarone, “has developed beautifully. It remains firm and vibrant, with lovely complexity in its perfumed red cherries, licorice, leather, mint and flowers. Still big and full-bodied, the 1995 promises to drink well for a number of years. It is a magnificent effort from Allegrini. Much of the wine’s freshness can be attributed to a cold, rainy spring that resulted in an uneven flowering and naturally lower yields”, says Robert Parker who awarded this bottle 93 points. Also included in this lot and awarded 95 points from Robert Parker is, "The spectacular, opaque purple-colored 1997 Amarone from an exceptional vintage for this appellation. It possesses a gorgeous bouquet of graphite, blackberries, plums, cherries, and truffles. Although it reveals some of Amarone's pruny, raisiny, nearly over-the-top characteristics, it is full-bodied, super-rich, and concentrated, with striking purity as well as a fabulous perfume. A touch of volatile acidity gives it even more complexity and aromatic uplift. Full, voluptuous, and deep, with huge extract hiding impressive tannin levels, this winemaking tour de force will drink well for 20+ years." Recommended with hearty dishes and excellent with roasted red meats. Next, two bottles of 2000 Bussola Amarone Della Valpolicella Vigneto Alto. The grapes gathered and selected from the little vineyard called “Vigneto Alto” were really special. Left to dry from mid-September 2000 till mid-January 2001, they achieved a advanced degree of “appassimento” (drying), arriving at a degree “Babo” of 27/28 (almost 300 g/l of residual sugar). Antonio Galloni raves, “The 2000 Amarone Classico Vigneto Alto TB reveals another level of intensity altogether, with waves of dark cherries, cocoa and licorice that coat the palate with notable persistence. It offers superb length and terrific expansiveness, even if it doesn’t quite have the depth of the 2001 Amarone TB. In 2000 the fruit saw four months of drying. Fermentation lasted 55 days. A blend of 75% Corvina and Corvinone, 20% Rondinella and 5% Molinara, it spent 30 months in 12 and 25- hectoliter Slavonian and French oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2015." And finally two bottles of 2004 Bussola Amarone Della Valpolicella Vigneto Alto that Wine Spectator’s Jo Cooke awarded 93 points and described “This well-structured Amarone displays aromas and flavors of sweet currant, mineral and vanilla. Full-bodied, with fine yet sturdy tannins, coated with lots of sweet fruit. A little off-dry. Takes on a bitter orange peel tinge on the finish. Best after 2009.”
