Item Description
About First Steps in Music with Connie Greenwood:
First Steps in Music classes engage children and their parents in singing folk songs, rhymes and games, and provide free play with percussion instruments. Through these activities, our classes:
» Inspire children to listen, feel and move to music of all kinds
» Develop a child’s imagination through songs and movement
» Encourage positive social interactions with other children
» Are fun for kids and parents alike
Through singing, instrumental exploration, and games, children are given an appetite to love music. In a playful manner, children develop sensory awareness, language, motor, creative and social skills along with gaining a wide repertoire of music. Word sheets and CDs are provided so parents can reinforce what is learned in class at home, yielding long life to the songs you learn in class.
Connie Greenwood, “Miss. Connie,” brings to these classes many years of teaching folk songs and a tremendous love for children. She is a Hartt graduate, a former West Hartford music teacher, and was featured in the Connecticut Public Television documentary Music and Early Childhood. She presently conducts a children’s choir in South Windsor, Conn. She is a mother of four musicians, and she and her husband enjoy having “family music time” when they are all home. She accompanies herself with folk guitar, autoharp, and dulcimer, as well as various percussion instruments. She has a passion for unleashing creativity in children in a playful, musical way.
Classes are available for the following age groups:
Infant (birth to 15 months)
Toddler (16 to 29 months)
Nursery (30 to 42 months)
Preschool (3.5 to 5 years)
