Two lucky students will fly to New York and experience the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and have lunch with the famous Gadget brothers Dan and Mike Dubno, founders of the exclusive invitation only tech salon GADGETOFF. CBS News Digital Dan is credited as the first person to bring data visualization technologies like 3D graphics, touchscreens, and high-resolution satellite imagery to television, transforming the news during the 2003 Iraq invasion when CBS Evening News was able to show Saddam Husseins strongholds and targets of US bombing raids. Mike Dubno is Goldman Sachs former Chief Technology Officer, author of the risk-management program still in use today to which various experts have credited the firm's escapes from various financial crises over the last 20 years. The two inspired and tech-savvy brothers are inventors themselves as well as madmen who curate the world's craziest inventor event, the Gadgetoff, an annual invitation-only convocation of likeminded gear-heads that the New Yorker described as a daylong jamboree of human ingenuity that would include the world's most stimulating inventors, designers, programmers, hackers, craftsmen, machine builders and masterminds.

"One of the best parts about Gadgetoff [is] the quality of the people who were there," says Astro Teller, artificial intelligence scientist and head of Google's secretive advanced research arm, Google X. Have lunch with Dan (credited w/introducing Sergey and Larry to Keyhole technology, which became Google Earth), and visit Mike Dubno's legendary basement ilab in Manhattan, where he has a Jet drill press capable of 5000 rpm, Epilog laser cutter, Makerbot 3D printer, TIG welder, MIG welder, and Hypertherm torch with a 55,000F beam of ionized plasma. The winners will participate in a taping of the Gadget Brothers television show, where the Dubnos go in search of new inventors across the country to come join in the GADGETOFF 2017 fun. Last but not least these two students will also get to attend the GADGETOFF 2017 to hob nob with Nobel laureates and best minds in tech who are literally inventing the future.
