Summer Program
La Escuelita offers a full immersion Summer Program for children 2 to 5 years old. Conducted exclusively in Spanish with expanded outdoor time, our Summer Program is a more relaxed setting than our Preschool, while still keeping our children engaged and actively learning. Our Summer Program lasts six weeks from mid-June through the end of July, and includes half-day and full-day options. Families can register for two week sessions, or for the whole summer.
Groups are led by at least one Head Teacher and one Assistant Teacher, typically La Escuelita staff. In addition, children may see Spanish modeled by Junior Counselors. A new program offered during summer 2015 to our graduates, Volunteer Junior Counselors assisted teachers in all activities while serving as great examples of Spanish fluency to the younger children.
During summer 2015, children explored New York City. Teachers and students experienced our neighborhood and surrounding areas through mini themes. Taking advantage of local programs, we dived into various aspects of city life: public art, wildlife and nature in the parks, bridges and architecture, museums and music history. Each week the classes took trips around New York City to reinforce what they had learned. From Riverside and Central Parks to the many great museums on the Upper West Side, students were exposed to a wide range of experiences and Spanish vocabulary.
