Item Description
Do your teenagers love to write? They will submit up to 10 pages of their work to share in an encouraging book clublike workshop with fellow writers. Discussion will focus on identifying and responding to what is alive and vibrant in each piece.
This two-hour salon will be facilitated by Nueva parents Jan Ellison and Abigail Hing Wen. Each submission will be read and responded to by Jan, Abigail, and the other workshop participants.
Jan Ellison is a USA Today bestselling author. Her debut novel, A Small Indiscretion, was a San Francisco Chronicle Best Book of the Year. Jan won an O. Henry Prize for her first short story, and her essays about writing and parenting have appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and elsewhere. A graduate of Stanford, Jan also holds an MFA from San Francisco State. She and her husband live in Portola Valley with their four children, all former or current Nueva students.
Abigail Hing Wen holds an AB from Harvard and an MFA in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts, where she studied under National Book Award and Newbery Honor recipients Will Alexander, Martine Leavitt, and Kathi Appelt. She is represented by literary and talent agency ICM Partners and is currently finishing her first novel for young adults. Abigail lives in Palo Alto with her husband and their two sons.
The salon is limited to five students in grades 8 to 12.
Date: Post-auction, we will email participants to confirm a 2016 date and location.
