The Kittansett Club is perennially ranked as one of the top 100 golf courses in America by Golf Digest (#84) and Golf Magazine (#74). The course was built in 1922 on a spit of land across from Cape Cod on the mainland side of Buzzards Bay. The routing was designed on paper by the great architect William Flynn (Shinnecock Hills; Cherry Hills) and the course was restored in the late 1990’s by Gil Hanse. Opening and closing along the peninsula’s narrow southern tip, the layout is arranged in a large loop that continually changes direction. What gives the course its teeth are the tights fairways, deep bunkers and slightly elevated greens, which are quite small and totally at the mercy of the elements. The course’s most famous hole is the magnificent 165-yard par-three 3rd, which requires an all-carry tee shot across the bay to a built up island of a green. Many a second shot have been played from the seaweed-strewn beach.
