Item Description

Susan T. Fisher has enjoyed a fulfilling career in Art Programs Management.  She is the former Coordinator for the Botanical Art and Illustration Program at Denver Botanic Gardens (1998 – 2006) where she restructured and authored curriculum to augment the certificate program still popular today. She is the former Director of the Art Institute at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (2004 – 2012) where she developed curriculum for the Nature Illustration Certificate Program.  Susan is a member of the Executive Board of the Society of Animal Artists.  She is a past president and former member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Botanical Artists.  Her illustrations and sculptures appear in numerous periodicals, books, florilegia, national exhibits and private collections.

The water lily painted on this mask is an image of the Nymphaea ‘William McLane’ growing at Denver Botanic Gardens It was hybridized for the Legacy Collection at the Gardens by Joe Tomocik, former head of the DBG water gardens. Casein paint was used on this mask exclusively.  Casein paint is one of the oldest painting mediums in existence. Unlike watercolors or oils this paint is a milk-based paint. My goal is to paint all of the water lilies in the Legacy collection at Denver Botanic Gardens completing one each year for the Mask Project.
