Item Description

Sydney Eitel is an award-winning artist from Denver, Colorado with a studio in Lakewood. She is inspired to produce paintings in watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, and sometimes oil.

Sydney is a Signature Member and Past President of The Colorado Watercolor Society. She also belongs to The Art Student League of Denver (ASLD) and Arvada Fine Arts Guild. Lapis Gallery has an ongoing relationship with her and she has been juried into CoArt Gallery at 846 Santa Fe in Denver, CO. Sydney is a Board member for the Larimer Arts Association and is on the planning committee for Denver Chalk Art Festival. She participates in Art of Winter, recycling a snowboard with an acrylic painting. The second weekend of June is when Sydney sets up in a booth in the Summer Art Market at ASLD.

As a young student, Sydney designed the letterhead for the city of Lakewood. Her artwork has shown throughout the Denver Metropolitan area including two solo shows. She has won awards in the Art of the Rockies Annual Open Awards show and Glenwood Springs Art Guild Fall Art Festival. Sydney won a merit award at the El Dorado International Miniature Show. She was invited to street paint in the Larimer Street Painting Festival “La Piazza” and has been doing so every summer. Sydney was juried into the prestigious 2011 Western Federation of Watercolor Societies. In 2011, her giraffe painting, “Checking You Out” was awarded the Wildlife Appreciation Award in Glenwood Springs. Her paintings are hanging in Children’s Hospital, as well as, private, local and international collectors’ homes.

Sydney's artwork was selected by the Mayor's office in Denver, Colorado as the design for a memorial plaque in honor of the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001. The memorial plaque is installed on a marble base in the B Concourse at Denver International Airport (DIA). Publicity regarding this design is on the Mayor's website and the United States Mayoral Website.

Sydney helped begin a non-profit organization: Hearts For The World International. In her travels to Africa, she has been able to observe Safari animals. “Checking You Out” was painted from a giraffe she saw in the wild. As are many of the other animals she paints. For more information about her non-profit group, please go to www.HeartsForTheWorld.org. There is also a link to this organization on her artist homepage below.

My inspiration for "Happy To See You" came from a puppy we have laying in the sun lazily yawning. I began sanding away human lips and adding in coarse molding paste. My last step using the acrylic paints  was to add the dark green background to bring the happy face forward before varnishing the mask. My hope is that the mask brings a smile and finds a home, which in turn will bring blessing to The Denver Hospice.
