Item Description
This piece of art is a Frida Kahlo skull made by a 4th grade art collective class that worked for 3 consecutive weeks to finish this art piece . It is on solid wood that measures 24" x 32".
This Pre Colombian art technique was and is still often used with a variety of Mesoamerican communities. For example, Zapotecos in the state of Oaxaca utilize this technique to build altars during Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Students at King-Chavez Arts and Athletics Academies in Barrio Logan began to make these masterpieces with Mr. Bautista 5 years ago. They started making the bean art on the floor just as the Zapotecas did. Then, students started asking if there was a way to keep the art on a piece of paper or cardboard. We tried that, but did not work. The seeds and glue were too heavy and we decided to use wood instead.
