Item Description

Message from Jackie:

Working in mid-range stoneware clay fired in oxidation, my pots reflect my experiences in nature, my interest in agrarian cultures, and the inspiration I found as a kid rambling around New England mills and abandoned buildings. I identify with those who are directly involved in the hand work of daily life – whether it’s growing food, constructing tools and storage or arranging their dwellings to meet their needs.  I’m interested in how this work connects us with the land and with one another. I see ritual and devotion in this kind of living, and seek to visually communicate this connection in my daily practice.

I’m currently working on a number of different projects: fancygoods, which is a project inspired by the Shakers and seedware, which gets its inspiration from many years in the garden with my mother and grandmother. Each design is an amalgamation of ideas about growth, history, utilitarianism, and our interconnectedness.

Ultimately, I’m interested in these connections with each other and the land, and working toward a slow, steady growth toward an inner knowing that can guide us.

I am a 1988 graduate of Mt Ida College, having earned and degree in Graphic Design and a 1995 graduate of Bennington College, having earned a BFA with a concentration in ceramics and fashion design. I have apprenticed with Ray Bub and Susan Nykiel of Oak Bluffs Pottery in Pownal, Vermont and have been a potter for over 20 years.
