Nuno Felt Silk Collage Scarf, Handmade by Artist
- Item Number
- 142
- Estimated Value
- 180 USD
Item Description
This gorgeous one-of-a-kind handcrafted nuno felt silk scarf measures approximately 56" x 15". The collage is created by hand through a lengthy wet felting technique using merino wool, tencel, and silk fibers. The rolling of the wool with the fibers while wet "connects" the silk pieces to create a new fabric. No sewing or stitching is used.
Nuno felting is a fabric felting technique developed by Polly Stirling, a fiber artist from New South Wales, Australia, around 1992. The name is derived from the Japanese word "nuno" meaning cloth. The technique bonds loose fibre, usually wool, into a sheer fabric such as silk gauze, creating a lightweight felt.
Nuno felting can be formed into garments, even boots. As a scarf, it makes a dramatic statement as well as being a delight to wear.
