At a toasted subs franchise in the local mall, three up-and-coming “sandwich artists”—a teenager, a single mom, and a downsized refugee from corporate banking—are perfecting the mustard-to-cheese ratio according to the company manual. But when their shot at the American dream is interrupted by a series of strange events, they become unlikely allies in a post-recession world. American Hero is a supersized comedy about life, liberty, and the pursuit of sandwiches.

WINTER TALES conceived by Mark Nash

Playing December 7–11, 2016

Pour yourself a cup of hot cider, grab a plate of molasses cookies, and join us for our 12th annual holiday tradition filled with funny and heartfelt stories and songs to shine a bit of sunlight on the dark days of winter. Featuring brand new stories, poetry brought to you by the Young Writers Project, and songs written and performed by Patti Casey and Pete Sutherland.

NATIVE GARDENS by Karen Zacarias

Pablo, a high-powered lawyer, and doctoral candidate Tania, his very pregnant wife, are realizing the American dream when they purchase a house next door to community stalwarts Virginia and Frank. But a disagreement over a longstanding fence line soon spirals into an all-out war of taste, class, privilege, and entitlement. Gardens and cultures clash, turning friendly neighbors into feuding enemies, the hilarious results of which guarantees no one comes out smelling like roses.

BLACKBERRY WINTER by Steve Yockey

Years of success, meticulous planning, and an eye for detail have in no way prepared Vivienne Avery for her mother's slide into the grip of dementia. Initially hiding behind insomnia-fueled baking and a polite smile, stories about her mother leave Vivienne's inner turmoil quietly laid bare in a juxtaposition of stories, theatrical gestures, and a childlike Alzheimer's "creation myth."

Annie and Peter decide to adopt, setting their sights on a child from Africa. But, when they receive surprising news from the adoption agency, their marriage is put to the test, secrets of the past are exposed, and this couple approaching midlife is left with an unexpected choice. Politically charged, funny and tack-sharp, Enlightening, funny, and tack-sharp, The Call is a touching look at the malleable image of family and a depiction of growth, acceptance, and empathy.

THE BAKE OFF conceived by Artistic Director Cristina Alicea

Playing June 13–18, 2017

Take one play, break it in three parts, add three directors and three casts, and—voilà!—you've got the 6th annual directing "bake off," an engaging exploration of the “ingredients" different directors can use to create the same play. Each performance is followed by a Q&A with the directors and audience. More information on the chosen play to "bake off" will be announced in early spring 2017!
