Item Description

Personalized instruction in Classical Ballet, Pre-pointe, or Pointe technique. The focus of the lesson is determined by the goals of the dancer and what I find to be the most pertinent technical areas that need strengthening. If the dancer would like, I will also complete a full structural analysis to identify any imbalances that may be hindering their technique or could potentially lead to injury. From there, I can offer some strategic exercises to correct those imbalances while developing core strength and stabilization of the joints. I also enjoy utilizing the private lesson to find ways for the dancer to express their individuality and deepen their sense as an artist.

Katelyn Lodell (formerly Katelyn Candelario), is a South Whidbey Island native and an alumni of Island Dance and Whidbey Island Dance Theatre. During her teenage years, in addition to her education at Island Dance, she spent her summers attending intensive dance programs with Boston Ballet, and twice with American Ballet Theater. After graduating, she continued her dance education at the University of Arizona's School of Dance on academic scholarship. There, she studied ballet, modern, and jazz under their prestigious staff and performed in several productions with their selective Dance Ensemble. She danced featured roles in their productions of George Balanchine's Serenade, Swan Lake, and several other original works. After graduating suma cum laude in 2009 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts, Katelyn returned to the northwest where she danced professionally with DASSDance under the artistic direction of Daniel Wilkins. She also performed with 3rd Shift Dance, and returned to WIDT to perform as a guest artist in recent productions of the Nutcracker. In 2013 she moved to Pasadena, California with her husband while he earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy, and she her honed managerial and leadership coaching skills with lululemon athletica. They recently moved home, and Katelynbegan teaching Ballet levels IIB-VII at Island Dance and choreographed works for WIDT's 2015-16 season. She thoroughly enjoys bringing her passion and experience back to her home studio to develop a new generation of pre-professional dancers. When Katelyn isn't teaching dance she's enjoying life with her husband, Michael (also and island native), and their 1 1/2 year old son Benjamin. She's currently working toward her STOTT Pilates Instructor certification, and studying nutrition and wellness coaching at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. These studies have enriched her dance teaching curriculum, and hopes to one day open her own post-rehabilitation Pilates and Integrative Health practice.
