Item Description

“You know, there’s really very little new in clocks. For example, you know that clock they sell at Kmart that displays the time on the ceiling of your bedroom? That’s an Italian Renaissance idea! It had an oil lamp inside that projected the time through cutouts. Amazing.”

Mr. John Metcalfe has been one of New York’s premier clock mechanics for the past 24 years. His fascination with timepieces -- technically, a timepiece tells time, a clock strikes a bell or a chime -- began when, as a 10-year-old boy, he unearthed a busted alarm clock in his grandmother’s garden shed in North London. Mr. Metcalfe had his shop set up for nearly a quarter of a century in New York City, a metropolis long on exquisite timepieces and short on people who know the mechanics of how they work. His clients range from collectors to institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art; if there is one person who can fix the cuckoo clock you inherited from Great Aunt Sally, or spruce up your newly acquired antique clock, Mr. Metcalfe is the man to call. The winning bidder will receive a house call from antiquarian horologist* John Metcalfe to fix any clocks that are giving you trouble.

Time is running out for this auction package. Get your bid in now! Tick, tock, tick, tock…

 * horology is the study of design and construction of timepieces

Item Special Note
