Item Description

Kalandar silk scarf utilizing a traditional tie and dye technique.

Here is a little bit about the craft...

Our “Tie and Dye” crafts unit specializes in making colourful dupattas (scarves). This local art is called “bandini.” Tie and dye is a process of hand-dyeing fabric, thereby producing a variegated pattern. All our products are made with eco-friendly vegetable dyes that are less toxic than their synthetic counterparts. The process of tie-dye typically consists of folding, twisting, pleating, or crumpling fabric or a garment and binding with string or rubber bands, followed by application of dye(s).

The Kalandar people were the people who used to 'dance bears'.  Wildlife SOS has helped them to learn new vocations so they can support their family without exploiting bears and other wildlife.  You can continue to help us keep India 'dancing bear' free by purchasing this item and supporting their new vocations.
