Item Description

"Rhinebeck Crescent" Oil and earth pigment on canvas *PRINT Only* 12 x 16 donated by local artist Laura Lanchantin

Bio
Laura Leigh is a fine artist, live painter, stone pigment grinder, and
painting teacher based in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York.
Laura grew up in Cambridge, N.Y on her family’s 150 acres of
farmland. She graduated from SUNY New Paltz in 2014 with a BFA
in Painting and Drawing. Laura works in oils and watercolors, and
has created her own pallet out of stone pigments that she collects,
grinds, and binds to painting medium herself. Laura also plays the
accordion and several other instruments.

Artist’s Statement
“My paintings come from my soulful connection with nature and
landscape. I focus on the primary structures and patters of the
natural world. I create abstractions of reoccurring patterns and
shapes found in nature using my imagination or my ‘dreaming mind’a
more primitive state of consciousness. I do not wish to simply
capture a natural scene with realism, but rather capture the raw
energy and emotion of the land. In the process of creating my stone
pigments, I am able to harvest some of that raw energy. I act as a
transfer of energy from the land to the canvas.”
