Item Description
“The Son of Monkey” by Rowan Sanford-Eckhaus, grade 8
Medium: Acrylic on Paper
This work is based on the painting “Son of Man” by Magritte.
Rowan wrote: I think the subtext of the original image by Magritte is interesting. There is is the symbolism of the apple for the the downfall of man in Christianity, plus humans wanting to see behind the apple, not that the apple is really there. I was remixing the human aspect of the painting because humans generally see themselves as different than animals. The clouds Magritte paints have such a great texture and is difficult to mimic. I appreciate how great Magritte is at painting clouds.
