I renewed my passion for creating after a career in corporate human resources. It was like coming home. Creating once more frees me to explore and experiment with materials that intrigue me. Up-cycled and repurposed materials often appear in my work. I love the texture, patterns and contrasts that they provide. When an idea comes to me (typically at 3am!) the materials needed to manifest my vision start to appear everywhere I go…a plate of just the right shade of blue, vintage jewelry for a sculpture, or wire that can be twisted like vines. Each step of the process is a voyage, and I have learned to enjoy every step! I am a member of Kashi Kari Gallery, An Art Collaborative, in the Santa Fe Arts District, and I share my love of mosaics through teaching. In addition to my creative interests, I am an arts advocate. My desire to contribute has led me to join the Colorado Mosaic Artists Board as Program Chair. In this position I look forward to supporting this organization in promoting mosaic art and providing educational opportunities for our members. A sampling of my previous experience with the non-profit arts sector includes a position as Board Secretary of the Civic and Cultural Arts Center of Pineville, NC, and a contract position with the Society of American Mosaic Artists. Thinly Veiled, created especially for The Denver Hospice mask auction, depicts The Veil that shields the struggle beneath our "face" that we display to the public during a time that only one person truly experiences as they face the end of their life here on Earth. At times, The Veil is lifted and all emotions are expressed in their raw element. The Veil comes down again to protect oneself and loved ones from the inevitable realization when it is too much to bare.
