HAFFNER SYMPHONY // JIÅÂÂ?Í BUBENÍÄÂÂ?EK WORLD PREMIERE // IN THE COUNTENANCE OF KINGS Jan 24 – Feb 04 // Included in the Principal 8 and 5 Series This program is quite simply a celebration. The New York Times called Helgi Tomasson’s Ha ner Symphony “sublime—as festive as it is an embodiment of beauty.” Next, experience a new work by JiÅÂÂ?í BubeníÄÂÂ?ek—his fi rst for us. A former Hamburg Ballet principal dancer, he has created critically acclaimed works for Hamburg Ballet and New York City Ballet. Closing the program is Justin Peck’s In the Countenance of Kings, a bright and energetic ballet set to The BQE by indie crossover artist Su an Stevens.

 - or program 2 on Jan 26,28 or 31

SEVEN SONATAS // YURI POSSOKHOV WORLD PREMIERE // PAS/PARTS 2016 Jan 26 – Feb 05 // Included in the Principal 8 and 3 Series Program 02 opens with the purity and delicacy of Ratmansky’s Seven Sonatas and closes with William Forsythe’s pulsating Pas/Parts 2016. Set to Scarlatti, Seven Sonatas is a neoclassical ballet the Washington Post hailed for “its extreme musical sensitivity.” Yuri Possokhov’s Swimmer was the undisputed hit of the 2015 Repertory Season. Be the fi rst to see the newest o ering from Possokhov, our choreographer in residence. And fi nally, William Forsythe’s astounding Pas/Parts 2016. Upon its debut, the SF Chronicle gushed, “dense in detail, yet airy in e ect, classical in its language…yet resolutely contemporary in its sensibility—a major acquisition for the company

or program 4 on March 7,8,10

STRAVINSKY VIOLIN CONCERTO // PRODIGAL SON // DIAMONDS Mar 07 – 18 // Principal 8 and 5 Series Dance critic Clement Crisp, in his eulogy, summed up Balanchine’s contribution to the world of ballet: “It is hard to think of the ballet world without the colossal presence of George Balanchine. But we have not lost Balanchine — not the essential Balanchine, who lives in the great catalogue of masterpieces that have so shaped and refi ned our understanding of ballet and given it — and us — thrilling life.” Thrill to Balanchine’s extraordinary genius with three di erent but equally seminal works.

- or program 5 on March 9,11,14

FUSION // ARTHUR PITA WORLD PREMIERE // FEARFUL SYMMETRIES Mar 09 – 19 // Principal 8 and 3 Series This program shows you where ballet is heading. East meets west in Yuri Possokhov’s expansive and moving ballet Fusion which debuted at SF Ballet’s 75th Anniversary New Works Festival. Next is the fi rst major American commission for Arthur Pita, the self-styled “David Lynch of dance.” With roots in ballet, modern, and disco, Pita’s work is eclectic and often surreal. Program 05 closes with Liam Scarlett’s physical and deeply sensual Fearful Symmetries which debuted to standing ovations in 2016.

- or program 7 on April 5,8,13

7 TRIO // MYLES THATCHER WORLD PREMIERE // WITHIN THE GOLDEN HOUR © Apr 05 – 18 // Principal 8 and 5 Series The LA Times called Helgi Tomasson’s Trio, “elegant and engrossing.” The SF Chronicle said it was “sheer extroversion.” Set to Tchaikovsky’s gorgeous Souvenir de Florence, Trio evokes emotion-laden memories in three elegant movements. SF Ballet dancer Myles Thatcher has taken the ballet world by storm with recent commissions for New York City Ballet and The Jo rey Ballet, following our 2015 debut of his Manifesto. This program features his second new work for us. Christopher Wheeldon’s inventive and mystical Within the Golden Hour© completes this meditation on contemporary classicism and ballet at its best.
