Item Description
The winner of this package will receive this framed astrograph of "The Planet Mars & Comet Ikeya-Zhang" by John Mowbray.
Passing through the inner solar system, the Comet Ikeya-Zhang made a brief, but remarkable appearance next to the planet Mars over the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area as it was captured on film by John Mowbray in the Spring of 2002. Comets are irregularly shaped bodies of matter left over from the creation of the universe. The Comet Ikeya-Zhang is believed to have last appeared over Southern Nevada in 1661.
John Mowbray a 2nd generation Nevada lawyer is an avid astronomer and photographer who enjoys exploring the universe from the environs of Southern Nevada in general and the Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area in particular. Mowbray and his telescopes have scanned the night skies for years. Capturing on film the last solar eclipse of the 20th century and the first lunar eclipse of the 21st century, Mowbray's photographs of comets and planetary conjunctions have chronicled recent events of the cosmos in our times.
