Item Description
Since I usually work on a flat surface, this mask project proved to be an interesting endeavor. I believe strongly in Hospice that it was a pleasure to give it a try. I work in oils primarily, and although I have done many portraits, I also paint landscapes, still lifes and florals. I find painting and drawing to be a wonderful expression of emotions that might be otherwise hard to express.
My mask tells a story. The eyes, because they move, can express different emotions. Because I paint realistically I decided to make “her” as close to a human face as I could. The braids were painstakingly placed two at a time to achieve the look I wanted. The headpiece compliments her unusual look. The earrings are from a birthday card my sister sent me. I believe my mask expresses a look of wonder and naiveté.
