Item Description

With the exception of 1 year, I have been a Colorado resident for 32 years. Before that I came from Kansas. The youngest of 4 children I was surrounded by creative energy.  My sisters were always doing interesting things. The company my father worked for began slowly closing the shop, which would eventually move us to Colorado. In the process he brought home left-over rolls of printer paper from old printers. This paper was not a good paper for drawing as it was coated, making it difficult to erase cleanly or paint on. However, it afforded me unlimited drawing power and my imagination had a regular outlet.

We always had creative toys such as Fashion Plates, coloring books and Spirograph, but blank and seemingly endless paper is an excellent tool of imaginative exploration. In second or third grade my crayon drawing of a fish with glasses reading a book under water won 1st place in my elementary school library art contest. I was so proud because I never imagined I would win.  My first sketch pad and higher quality colored pencils came as a 12th birthday gift from one of my sisters. It was the first time anyone had taken my creative interest seriously.  From that point forward I never used cheap paper again.

In high school a friend had been doing some oil painting. This inspired me I could do the same. Until then I had only used water color, tempera or acrylic paint and I hadn’t explored any of them much. Thus, began my true fine art focus. I taught myself much before continuing painting in college. The exploration of techniques, styles and mediums in paint and many other mediums is great fun. My focus includes but is not limited to starting with my drawings then choosing whatever medium to transmit raw feelings and a sense of mystery and wonderment as well as depicting underlying psychological processes rarely seen by the naked eye.
