Item Description

Dominick of The Phoenix Art Group states: "I'm constantly looking for inspiration for my work. I tend to find inspiration in the day-to-day things and activities that others would normally take for granted." Whether he is studying the great "narrative" artists from the golden age of illustration at the turn of the Twentieth Century or painting his own abstract expressionist view of a cityscape in vibrant tones of silver and grays, the artist Dominick is always searching for diversity and excitement in his creative work. "I like to experiment with different styles and incorporate them into my artwork," Dominick explains. "I feel that having an understanding of many different styles and techniques will make me a better, well-rounded artist." Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Dominick spent his childhood experiencing the seasonal richness of the coastal life in Hilton Head. He fondly remembers the sounds of the sea and the dazzling colors of aquatic life, which he is constantly inspired to capture and reinterpret in his painting. He relies on the beauty of nature as a valuable source of creative ideas and especially enjoys spending time in the mountains and the exhilarating cooler climates of Durango, Flagstaff and Salt Lake City. Dominick attended the Ringling Brothers School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration. During his student days, he also extended his skills into graphic design and the study of traditional single-cell animation. "I find that I am most impressed by the works of artists such as J.C. Leyendecker, Norman Rockwell and N.C. Wyeth," Dominick reflects. "Their ability to capture the essence of a human being is what inspires both my work and me." When he is not making art, Dominick lies to stay active, snowboarding and exercising to stay in shape. He also likes to stay up-to-the-minute with the latest advances in technology and finds himself fascinated by digital cameras and MP3 players -- or any new electronic  innovation.
