Item Description
"Lakshmi" 48" X 36" Rice paper pigment on panel with oil, Artist Print #1
Taos artist Kimberly Webber’s paintings are meditations on the sacred vision of dreams, the mystery, power and magic of the natural world and the realms of the archetypes who reside in our collective super-conscious.
Delicate lines of sacred geometry inform compositions in layers of pure, powdered earth pigments. An alchemical fusion of traditional Eastern and Western schools of painting produce multi-dimensional, light responsive oil paintings that range from 70-100+ sheer layers per painting.
It is the artist’s deepest desire to create and offer sacred art that empowers the viewer and the planet.
Kimberly Webber’s paintings are exhibited and collected internationally.
Artist Statement:
My works can be described as contemporary symbolist paintings; modern magical realism rooted in antiquity. Archetypal figures appear through organic abstraction patterns. The physical act of painting begins with the clean white page or pristine canvas, perfection, unlimited pure divine potential… but the perfect white surface calls the black charcoal or ink markings to itself in order to experience contrast, polarity and tension, in order for there to be something to look at.
Chiaroscuro is the language of visual art, form emerging from nothing, black and white gradations creating the bone, flesh and spirit of the unfolding work. Dark and light; the drama activates the visual center, the perpetual dance between shadow and light, the nuanced visual rhythm. The artist becomes the conduit through which the creative impulse manifests. We provide a ground through which the formless may become form. Archetypes, icons of the deep collective consciousness, materialize in this fertile multidimensional ground as guides who help humanity to remember, to envision, to actualize, to heal.
Each viewer’s interpretation is unique and important, hence the term ‘interpretive symbology’ that my colleagues and I have created to describe the phenomena of multiple perspectives, experiences and reactions to a single work of art. This is how the archetypes function, they change, shift, bend and adapt to the infinite now, to our current issues and scenarios, and to the viewers own perspective. The works are intended to empower the viewer and unearth joy… appearing for a moment as bursts of light in the ephemeral and fleeting nature of physical reality, an imprint of home upon the eternal astral plane. http://kimberlywebber.com/
