Item Description
Imari porcelain was originated in the year 1616 in the town of Arita, Japan. It became famous for its pure white color, to which colorful designs were added by the artist Sakaida Kakiemon starting in 1643. The “Imari” name comes from the port city to which the pieces were shipped for trading.
On this piece, the dark cobalt (Sometsuke) on the white ground evokes refinement and quietude. Arita Bussan Gold Imari pieces are made by skilled specialists in pottery making, printing and design using the most excellent and traditional designs.
