About the Authors:

Jeremy McCarter wrote cultural criticism for   New York  magazine and   Newsweek before spending five years on the artistic staff of the Public Theater, where he created, directed, and produced the Public Forum series. He served on the jury of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and is writing a book about young American radicals during World War One. He lives in Chicago.  

Lin-Manuel Miranda   (Book, Music, and Lyrics/Alexander Hamilton)  is the Tony and Grammy award-winning composer-lyricist-star of Broadway's   In the Heights--winner of four 2008 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Orchestrations, and Best Choreography with Miranda receiving the award for Best Score. Additionally, he is the co-composer and co-lyricist of Broadway's Tony-nominated   Bring It On: The Musical and provided Spanish translations for the 2009 Broadway revival of   West Side Story. Miranda, along with Tom Kitt, won the 2014 Creative Arts Emmy for Best Original Music and Lyrics for their work on the 67th Annual Tony Awards. In 2015, Miranda was named as a Fellow of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. He lives with his family in New York City.

As I clicked the button to preorder this book, my hopes were already exceedingly high. However, somehow, weeks later, as I hold it in my hand, trace my fingers along the beautifully designed pages and the smooth, smooth binding, I'm exceedingly shocked at how exquisite this book is. Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jeremy McCarter have absolutely outdone themselves. While I haven't seen the musical yet, I have listened to the soundtrack thousands upon thousands of times at least, and I dream so fondly of attending a show one day. This book is absolutely stunning in both design and structure and I absolutely recommend it. Miranda's talent and wisdom inspires me every single day, and I feel honored to be holding his book in my hands.

Bravo on this one, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and bravo to all you do. I hold you in the highest respects.

If you are a lover of Lin-Manuel Miranda or a lover of Hamilton the musical books or a musicologist or just a lover of exquisite book-making, you have just struck the bibliophile's, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton-loving, creative process & backstage peeks jackpot! You will feel as if won the fort row #Ham4Ham Lottery!! And then got a backstage pass. Personal notes & commentary from Lin-Manuel on nearly every page. Deckle edge!! When did the last book you order ever have deckle edge paper? Beautiful heavy, creamy stock. An historical but readable typeface. It is not surprising that this is volume or folio, is as much a work of art as is the show. Exquisite. Fun. Intimate. Insightful. Actual photos of Lin-Manuel. notebooks! I can see I am going to have to ration these pages or else I will binge through this in a day. And I don't want to do that. I want to savor every single word, image & page. A thousand thanks for the pleasure of imbibing everything that I know is within the covers of this beautiful volume. Congratulations on another major accomplishment. I hope it is a screaming bestseller both for you and the cast but also for the art of publishing. Perhaps you will raise the standards of what constitutes a beautiful book in 2016 and beyond.
