Item Description

Take part in a bread workshop at Brickmaiden Breads in Point Reyes Station, California - it's just what you knead, whether you have a keen interest in bread or would love to just spend a day learning how its done. Even if you’ve been baking your own bread at home, this workshop offers a hands-on opportunity for further exploration.

You will work alongside Brickmaiden’s founding baker, Celine Underwood, learning about sourdough culture, mixing, forming and baking your own delicious sourdough loaves.

Celine's passion for bread, and sourdoughs in particular, developed when she was in her teens. She spent several years baking professionally, meeting talented bakers and learning new techniques, before travelling through France. When she returned home to Point Reyes she was ready to open the doors of Brickmaiden, in October of 2000.

If you are an avid home baker, this workshop is a great opportunity to ask questions and refine recipes and techniques. For everyone, it is a chance to experience a day in the life of a professional baker; see what it takes to make the loaves you look forward to tearing into!

The winning bidder will also receive an autographed copy of the fabulous "The Violet Bakery Cookbook" by West Marin's Claire Ptak, who grew up in Inverness and worked for three years at Chez Panisse, as a pastry cook and then a pastry chef. Claire now runs Violet Cakes, her bakery-café based in East London, and is a food writer, food and prop stylist, recipe developer and consultant.

In homage to Claire's career start at the famous Bovine Bakery in Point Reyes Station, we're also delighted to offer the winning bidder $25 gift certificate to "The Bovine"!

Like Celine and Claire, for Bridget Devlin it all fell into place: her entrepreneurial instincts kicked in, she researched every aspect of starting a bakery business, even apprenticing herself to Kelly Porter at Santa Cruz’s Kelly’s French Bakery. When she was ready she found the perfect location and the perfect people to work with her.

Competing with all the natural beauty is the smell of freshly baked bear claws, gooey morning buns and sourdough rolls—just a few of the reasons it’s as likely to meet someone munching on one of the Bovine Bakery’s pastries who is from San Francisco as from around the corner. (When people ride their bicycles 30 miles to eat a pastry, you know it’s good.)

Get inspired, smell the yeasty sweetness and bid today!
